Drop A Box
A multiplayer physics sandbox with custom replication, a data architecture, and an RNG system.

Overview
Drop A Box is a long-running multiplayer experience and the proving ground for much of my Roblox systems work, from networking to data persistence.
The problem
Sustaining a smooth multiplayer sandbox at scale means solving networking, persistence, and fairness all at once.
The solution
Custom replication keeps physics in sync, a versioned data layer persists player progress, and a transparent RNG system drives rewards.
Architecture
Server-authoritative simulation, a sharded datastore wrapper with retries, and an auditable RNG with server-seeded rolls.

Features
Custom replication
Smooth physics across clients.
Durable saves
Versioned, retry-safe persistence.
Fair RNG
Server-seeded, auditable rolls.
Live events
Scheduled in-game events.
Technical decisions
Server authority
Prevents exploits in a physics sandbox.
Sharded datastores
Spreads write load to avoid throttling.
Challenges & lessons
Datastore limits and exploiter pressure were constant; both pushed the architecture toward authority and auditing.
Players feel latency before they feel features. Networking came first for a reason.
